Winter is almost here and in some areas people are already seeing cold temperatures and a small amount of snow. This means it is time to start thinking about how you and your family can save on heating costs this year. Likely the obvious winterizing of the home has already taken place such as the weather stripping on the doors, the insulation throughout the house, and maybe even plastic over the windows but there are also a number of things that you and your family can do to keep warm without cranking up the heat.
One of the worst mistakes people make is turning the thermostat in their home up and down all the time. This can cause a significant rise in your heating costs. There are many other ways to keep warm that do not involve turning up the thermostat. Here are four things that you can purchase for you and your family that will keep you warm and comfortable without having to constantly change the temperature setting in your home so that you can keep your heating costs down this winter season.
Slippers - Buy your whole family a nice cozy pair of slippers to wear and they will stay warmer and be less likely to crank up the heat. Many individuals feel cold if their feet are cold and considering floors can get pretty cold during the winter slippers are a good investment. Those individuals with wood floors or another hard surfaced floor will benefit even more from investing in slippers as such floors are almost always a bit cold, especially in the morning. If your family can hop out of bed and slip their feet into a nice warm pair of slippers they will be much less likely to head for the thermostat.
Bathrobe - A nice warm bathrobe will also keep you warm and if you buy them for the whole family they are likely to get a lot of use. It is much nicer clipping into a cozy bathrobe n the evening and morning rather than turning up the heat and waiting for it to get warm. Since nobody likes to wait to be warm there is a good chance that your family will opt for the robe rather than the thermostat.
Sweaters - For normal daytime hours it may be undesirable to sit around n a bathrobe so it is important that your family has lots of nice warm sweaters to slip on if they catch a chill. You want to make sure sweaters are comfortable so that your family members will want to wear them and when they do they will be less likely to feel the need to turn up the heat.
Throw Blankets - Throw blankets are another great way to keep your family warm without raising your heating bill. Keep throws throughout the house so you and your family have easy access and they will stay warm with out having to touch the thermostat at all.
Everybody likes to be warm during the winter but not by sacrificing all of their money for heating costs. Buy these few things and you will see that you thermostat gets touched less and that your heating bill is lower than ever.
